Answer
It can lead toward an impersonal understanding unless we maintain careful attention to the Lord’s distinct personal features. For example, if one meditates only on the Paramatma feature in a general way, the focus may gradually become limited to an abstract bright effulgence — merely seeing the radiant form of the Lord. Then there is every possibility of contamination, because familiarity can breed complacency. One may begin to think, “It is the same Krishna, the same dress, the same ornaments every day.” But that is not the reality. Every day the Lord is adorned differently, with unique dress, ornaments, and decorations.

The real question is: are we attentively focusing on each and every beautiful detail of how the Lord is decorated? Such detailed meditation nourishes a more personal relationship. Otherwise, there is every possibility that one’s imagination about the Lord may become influenced by impersonalistic understanding.

That is why the yogic process of meditation on Paramatma is carefully authorized and systematically described. The subsequent verses explain exactly how one should meditate — beginning from the lotus feet and gradually contemplating each limb of the Lord in detail. It is a collection of several verses, each explaining what aspect to meditate upon, so that one develops a complete and detailed picture of the Lord, meditating on every limb individually. This preserves the personal conception and deepens devotional absorption.
