Answer
Kāma (lust), along with anger and greed, arises from rajo-guṇa; these are all manifestations born of the mode of passion. If a person allows these tendencies to dominate, it ultimately leads one toward a degraded condition, even hellish life.
Therefore, our lives should not be driven by lust, anger, or greed. Instead, they should be guided by the instructions of the spiritual master—the guru-mukha-vākya. When we allow our actions to be dictated by our lower impulses, we become servants of kāma. But when we replace those impulses with the words and guidance of the guru, and accept them as our life and soul, real transformation begins.
By sincerely aligning our life with the guru’s instructions, we gradually overcome these lower tendencies and progress steadily on the spiritual path.
