[Effect of sankirtana] You mentioned about the sankirtana that is happening worldwide and in any of the centers at any point of time there is a sankirtana happening and because of that in the world there is a wholesome good effect. Also to add to that there are some centers like Mayapur and Vrindavan where 24-hour sankirtana is being done. If in a temple we are doing 24-hour sankirtan does it offer added advantage to that because already worldwide sankirtan is going because of the different time zones it is already taken into that consideration.

Answer
First of all, you should understand that saṅkīrtana has a very broad meaning—just as Srila Prabhupada explained that even book distribution is saṅkīrtana—so it should not be narrowly seen as only chanting and hearing the Holy Name; rather, everything that supports, promotes, and expands the chanting of the Holy Name is also part of saṅkīrtana: when devotees go out to collect funds to maintain the temple, that is saṅkīrtana; when they distribute books to encourage people to chant Hare Krishna, that is also saṅkīrtana; in fact, once when devotees gave various reasons for why Srila Prabhupada was writing books—such as to explain philosophy—he did not fully agree until he clarified that he was writing so that people would take to chanting the Holy Name, showing that books are meant to support saṅkīrtana, and therefore book distribution itself is saṅkīrtana; similarly, one’s own chanting and hearing is saṅkīrtana, and all activities meant to broadcast this message—like public relations, administration, or working in offices to maintain the institution—are also part of saṅkīrtana because they sustain and expand the movement; if one limits saṅkīrtana only to chanting and hearing, then one may wrongly think that all other activities are a waste and that everyone should simply sit and chant 24 hours a day, but this is incomplete understanding, because the ācārya has given a larger vision—establishing an institution to spread the glories of the Holy Name—and fulfilling that vision naturally requires many interconnected services, all of which are integral to saṅkīrtana.
