Answer
Pray sincerely to the Holy Name to give you the strength and freedom to practice your Krishna consciousness. When your intention is genuine, Krishna can gradually influence circumstances — even your parents’ mindset may change over time.
At the same time, understand this clearly: your spiritual life is ultimately your responsibility.
From childhood, we are conditioned to follow our parents. So when they discourage devotional practices — telling you not to chant, not to read, or to give up certain habits — it naturally affects you. Your mind is trained to obey them.
But now, you are becoming spiritually aware. You are hearing from A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, and you have to take responsibility for your own spiritual progress.
This requires inner strength and clarity.
You should respectfully but firmly assert your commitment:
“I want to practice my devotional service sincerely.”
No need for aggression or conflict — but quiet determination is essential.
While chanting, you can specifically pray to the Holy Name:
“Please give me courage, clarity, and willpower to follow this path properly.”
Be internally resolved:
No one can stop me from chanting my rounds.
No one can force me to give up my devotional principles.
I will follow sincerely, with determination.
This strength will come gradually through chanting and sincere prayer.
So the key is:
depend on the Holy Name, stay respectful externally, but remain firm internally.
