Answer
In the beginning, a sādhaka may not have this realization. But gradually, through sincere practice over time, one comes to understand: “This is not what I should be pursuing.”

For some, this realization comes quickly; for others, it may take longer. The material world presents many kinds of traps. Māyā works in subtle ways — not only through gross sense pleasures, but also through more refined distractions, such as the desire for honor (māna) and the fear of dishonor (apamāna). One may run after recognition or try to avoid criticism — these too are powerful forms of entanglement.

So there are many layers of illusion.

However, if one sincerely follows the process — practicing devotional life in the association of devotees, under the guidance of a genuine spiritual master — then steady progress is assured.

This is the promise given by the śāstra and by the entire spiritual tradition: transformation is possible.

With proper guidance, association, and practice, one can gradually overcome these traps and come to the right understanding.

Yes, it is very much possible.
