[Distroying temples] In the past some demons have demolished the temples like some Vishnu temples. Lord is all powerful and all the shaktis are there in the deity. Then how He allowed the demons to demolish that temple?

Answer
The Lord simply chooses to manifest in the deity—that is the essential point to understand. Just because He appears in a deity form does not mean He becomes limited or imprisoned within matter. He remains completely independent. At any moment, He can stay in the deity or withdraw from it, because His original form is eternal and beyond material limitations. It is entirely His will.

For instance, a deity may be worshipped for many years and later, due to circumstances, be neglected or even buried. If after a long time someone discovers that deity, it does not mean the Lord was “buried” for all those years. Rather, He may have withdrawn His presence. And when proper worship is again established according to śāstra, He may choose to manifest there once more. His presence is not mechanical—it is conscious and voluntary.

In this way, the deity is simultaneously the Lord and not the Lord. It is the Lord because He fully manifests Himself there, and yet it is not limiting Him, because He always exists beyond it. His original nature is sat–cit–ānanda—eternal, full of knowledge and bliss—and when He appears in the deity, that form becomes spiritualized by His presence.

For a devotee, however, there is no difference. The devotee simply sees, “My Lord is here,” and serves with that faith. Through such service, real reciprocation takes place.

We also hear many pastimes that illustrate this truth. In the case of Sakshi Gopal, the deity walked to bear witness, and in the pastimes of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Nityananda Prabhu with Goridas Pandit, the deities behaved just like the Lord Himself. For a devotee, there is no concept of “mere matter” in such cases.

Even from a broader understanding, what we perceive as matter is simply a form of energy. When the Lord manifests, He is not under material guṇas; rather, His presence transforms everything into a spiritual reality. What appears material to us is no longer material when connected with Him.

These topics involve deep philosophical understanding—how the Lord relates to His energies, how He is simultaneously one with and different from them. As A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada explains, this takes time to understand properly.

But practically, a devotee can keep it simple: “Here is my Lord.” With that faith, one serves. If deeper questions arise, one can study philosophy; otherwise, sincere devotion itself is sufficient to experience His presence.
